The Special General Meeting was held on January 11, 2017 to address the resolution put forth by the Vancouver United Soccer Club:
Resolved as an ordinary resolution that the policy of the Society which gives Vancouver FC exclusivity over entering teams in the Metro-Select League be terminated immediately and replaced with:
“Any club may enter teams in the Metro-Select League (“MSL”) at any and all ages commencing with the 2017/18 season. VYSA will use its best efforts to assist club(s) and team(s) with their MSL application(s), including entering multiple teams per division, and shall not do or omit to do any act that may hinder or delay their entry into the MSL. This policy may not be changed without first obtaining the approval of the members at a Special General Meeting."
Approximately 510 individuals were present; with 458 eligible voting members. The motion required a simple majority of 230 to pass. The ballots were counted by BC Soccer Directors and it was announced that 185 voted yes, 260 voted no, there was one spoiled ballot and 12 abstentions. The motion, therefore, was defeated.
Vancouver Youth Soccer thanks all participants for taking time to attend this important meeting.
